Indonesia council points to 2029 for 80% EV local-content target
An earlier Industry Ministry timetable put the 80 per cent requirement in 2030. Both accounts link higher local content to battery production in Indonesia.

Indonesia’s National Economic Council (DEN) has told electric-car manufacturers to prepare for local-content requirements of 60 per cent in 2027 and 80 per cent in 2029. Executive secretary Septian Hario Seto said the higher threshold would mean making battery cells in Indonesia, although he qualified his recollection of the 2029 date.
Seto discussed the targets at the Minerba Convention & Exhibition 2026 at Jiexpo, in remarks cited on 4 November 2026. He said domestic assembly of battery packs would be necessary to meet the 60 per cent requirement.
The timetable differs from one previously presented by Setia Diarta, the Industry Ministry’s director-general of ILMATE. At a hearing with parliamentary Commission VII on 9 September 2026, Setia put the minimum at 40 per cent through 2026, followed by 60 per cent during 2027–2029 and 80 per cent in 2030.
Setia said the intermediate stage would require battery packs and modules to be produced domestically rather than imported. Battery-cell manufacturing would be particularly important for reaching 80 per cent, alongside the localisation of other components.
According to Seto, phasing in the requirements gives manufacturers time to arrange investment and prepare factories. He said the Industry Ministry’s framework and investment were already in place, and urged consistent implementation so Indonesian suppliers could develop.
