MoneySmart said some of its customers in Singapore and Hong Kong were affected by a breach in which an unauthorised third party entered its internal IT systems and copied personal information.

In a statement dated 3 November, the financial comparison platform said it had detected the intrusion on 29 October and subsequently ended the unauthorised access. It notified the relevant authorities and enlisted independent experts in cybersecurity and forensics to investigate.

Chief executive Vinod Nair said the company's operations were continuing normally and that MoneySmart remained committed to helping its customers.

Nair urged customers to treat unexpected communications purporting to come from MoneySmart with caution, whether by phone, email or message. He said the company would never ask for passwords, one-time passwords or banking information by telephone or email.
