Malaysia’s government has approved more than RM250 million for transport projects linked to the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) in Kelantan, the Ministry of Finance said on November 3.

A new bus terminal at Kota Bharu’s ECRL station will receive RM30 million. More than RM200 million is earmarked for preliminary work on a proposed extension connecting Kota Bharu with Rantau Panjang.

The ministry said the preparatory work covers early design, land surveying and investigations, an environmental impact assessment, preparation of the Railway Scheme and site preparation. These steps are intended to support implementation during the project’s next phase.

According to the ministry, the investment is intended to improve transport infrastructure and support economic development in Kelantan. It expects the projects to encourage business activity, bolster logistics, draw investment and generate local jobs. The ministry also said development should benefit communities across the country, including Kelantan, rather than focus only on major cities.
