PT PAL and BRIN partner on clean-energy propulsion research for warship
The Indonesian partners signed a memorandum covering maritime research and the use of innovations, with KRI Sriwijaya-100 propulsion among its priorities.

Indonesia’s state-owned shipbuilder PT PAL Indonesia and the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) have agreed to collaborate on research into clean-energy propulsion for KRI Sriwijaya-100. The work is intended to support domestic capabilities in maritime and defence technology.
The two organisations signed a memorandum of understanding covering research and the application of innovations in Indonesia’s maritime industry. Their agreement also provides for joint research, development and use of innovations across the energy and process industries.
Speaking in Surabaya, PT PAL Indonesia Production Director Diana Rosa said industrial participation was needed to turn research findings into technology that meets national needs. She said the propulsion project would combine researchers’ capabilities with the company’s industrial experience.
Rosa said she hoped the partnership would strengthen maritime technology and workers’ shipbuilding skills. The partners also aim to narrow the gap between research and industrial operations, moving innovations towards practical use while building national capacity to develop strategic maritime technology.
