Perak weighs AI data centre with planned capacity above 100MW
PKNPk and Global Vision Lab have signed documents enabling preliminary feasibility work, but investment commitments and a construction timetable remain undecided.

Perak State Development Corporation (PKNPk) and Global Vision Lab Sdn Bhd (GVL) are examining whether to develop an AI data centre in Perak, with power capacity targeted at more than 100 megawatts (MW). The target remains provisional, and the project depends on feasibility findings, definitive agreements and regulatory approvals.
A non-disclosure agreement and letter of consent signed by the parties allow them to exchange information and assess technical, infrastructure and commercial requirements. The proposed centre would serve demand in Malaysia and the wider region for AI computing, high-performance computing and applications using graphics processing units.
The assessments will examine potential sites, electricity availability, cooling, network connections and supporting infrastructure. PKNPk would coordinate stakeholders at state level, while GVL would oversee development planning and the technical and commercial studies.
ITMAN Service Center (M) Sdn Bhd and Future Quantum Co Ltd have been identified as partners, but their responsibilities and contributions remain unsettled. Investment commitments, construction arrangements, electricity supply and the implementation schedule also remain subject to the assessments, agreements and approvals.
PKNPk chief executive Datuk Redza Rafiq linked the proposal to the Perak Sejahtera 2030 development agenda. He said it could generate skilled jobs, strengthen technology supply chains and encourage AI adoption in manufacturing and logistics.
GVL executive director YL Lee said the company was studying operating needs and commercial considerations to determine a viable development model.
