Malaysia Rail Link Sdn Bhd (MRL) has set a starting one-way Economy Transit price of RM60 for travel from Gombak to Kota Sultan Ahmad Shah (KotaSAS), Kuantan. The company is aiming to launch commercial passenger services linking Gombak and Kota Bharu in mid-December 2026.

At an October 19 briefing, MRL chief executive officer Datuk Seri Darwis Abdul Razak said Cabinet approval for the fares came on October 16. Ticket costs may fluctuate with demand, the timing of travel and the availability of seats.

MRL outlined the following starting fares, which also apply in the reverse direction:

  • Gombak–KotaSAS: RM60 for Transit or RM68 for Express over 209km.
  • Gombak–Kuala Terengganu: RM95 for Transit or RM110 for Express over 378km.
  • Gombak–Kota Bharu: RM125 for Transit or RM147 for Express over 523km.

Express trains will call at four stations: Gombak, KotaSAS, Kuala Terengganu and Kota Bharu. Transit services will make all scheduled stops. MRL put the Gombak–Kota Bharu travel time at approximately four hours by Express and a maximum of five hours by Transit.

The timetable provides for 12 trips a day on Mondays through Thursdays, rising to 16 on Fridays through Sundays, split equally between the two directions. MRL plans to offer about 2.2 million seats during 2027.

Initially, services will use 10 electric multiple unit train sets capable of reaching 160kph. MRL aims to publish official ticket prices and sales information in mid-November 2026. Darwis said testing and safety checks were continuing alongside certification and preparations for operations.
