Public trial services on the eastern stretch of Bangkok’s Orange Line are expected to start in December 2027, according to the Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA). The authority plans to introduce paid services in January 2028.

MRTA Governor Kanchapoj Udomthamphakdee said work was being accelerated on the route between Thailand Cultural Centre and Min Buri (Rom Klao intersection). About six months of testing, covering systems and integrated operations, will precede the public trials. Civil works continue on the western stretch between Bang Khun Non and Thailand Cultural Centre, with opening expected in 2030.

For the southern Purple Line between Tao Poon and Rat Burana, civil works remain on track to finish by the end of 2027. MRTA is reviewing the operating investment model and financial figures against government fare policies and proposed transfers of project responsibilities.

The authority expects to seek approval for that model by late 2026, followed by Cabinet submission and investor selection. It is targeting full operations in 2030, although trial services could begin in stages.

Kanchapoj also said MRTA was preparing to assume responsibility for the Green and Gold lines from the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration and the Red Line from the State Railway of Thailand. The proposed transfers form part of a government policy for a single urban rail operator, with agencies coordinating and drafting memorandums of understanding.

Separately, feasibility studies are being reviewed for the proposed Brown and Silver lines and the Grey Line’s first phase. The Brown Line has a tentative opening target of 2032; the Silver Line and Grey Line’s first phase are targeted for 2033.
