Malaysia will bring its E-Commerce Bill before Parliament at the first meeting of 2027, Deputy Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Fuziah Salleh said on October 18. The legislation is intended to strengthen regulation of online transactions.

Speaking in Kuantan after closing the Retail Access Programme 2026, Fuziah said work on the initial draft was complete and revisions were under way. She said Malaysia currently lacks legislation specifically governing e-commerce, leaving the ministry to negotiate and mediate between online businesses and platform operators in most cases.

During his Budget 2027 presentation on October 9, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the bill would strengthen accountability among online platforms and sellers.

Fuziah also said the Retail Access Programme had assisted 1,862 entrepreneurs between 2023 and October 2026 through training and business matching. It comprised 38 training series and 21 business matching series, with 103 local brands and 552 stock-keeping units involved. She said participants could showcase products and learn supermarkets’ requirements to identify opportunities for retail distribution.
