Vietnam’s Public Security Minister Gen. Luong Tam Quang urged Nokia to expand cooperation on telecommunications security and resilience during an October 15 meeting in Hanoi with Andrew Cope, the company’s head of Asia-Pacific. Quang said communications needed to remain operational through disasters, emergencies and other incidents.

Among his proposals was an examination of technologies and transfer arrangements for dedicated 5G mobile systems supporting law enforcement. These could serve locations and events with particular security and safety requirements.

Quang also sought joint research, technology transfers and exchanges covering 5G-Advanced, 6G, artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, cloud computing and autonomous networks. He said cooperation should help Vietnam build technological self-reliance and a skilled workforce.

Other proposed areas included data analytics and cybersecurity for the ministry’s operations, advice on establishing research and innovation centres, and connections with international experts. Training could involve workshops, specialist courses and expert exchanges covering data, AI, high-performance computing centres and emerging technologies.

Cope outlined Nokia’s technology capabilities and development direction in Vietnam and the wider Asia-Pacific market. He expressed support for the proposed priorities, saying Nokia was ready to exchange expertise and present solutions suited to the ministry’s needs. He said the company would work with the ministry to examine possible cooperation in areas of shared interest.
