BYD Malaysia and Gentari have agreed to study the introduction of BYD flash charging technology in Malaysia, with Petronas stations and major highway corridors among the potential locations. The companies signed a memorandum of understanding at the automaker's global headquarters in Shenzhen.

Their initial work will centre on selected Denza luxury showrooms. They will subsequently examine sites at Petronas stations, along intercity routes and at highway rest and service areas. No investment amount or deployment schedule was disclosed.

Vehicles fitted with BYD's second-generation Blade Battery are designed to receive the system's maximum charging speeds. BYD says the Denza Z9GT, among the first compatible models in Malaysia, can take its battery charge from 10 to 70 per cent within five minutes, reaching 97 per cent within nine minutes.

A 122.49kWh battery and 1,000-volt electrical architecture equip the Z9GT. Other existing BYD models will also be able to use the infrastructure, with charging rates determined by the capabilities of each vehicle.

The collaboration also covers exploring technician training and upskilling to develop local capabilities for supporting Malaysia's EV sector.

In a separate update, Denza Malaysia added Fjord Green to the Z9GT's exterior colours, alongside Rime Gold and Obsidian Black. The company reported Malaysian deliveries of more than 100 units since launch. The model is priced at RM358,800.
