Prasarana Malaysia Berhad expects a decision on procurement of its planned open payment system by the end of 2026, Transport Minister Anthony Loke told Parliament on October 21. He said procurement and evaluation were nearing completion for the system covering rail and bus services in the Klang Valley and Penang.

Loke said passengers would be able to use MyDebit cards and international debit and credit cards based on EMV technology once the system is implemented. Potential payment providers include Visa, Mastercard, American Express, UnionPay and JCB. Contactless NFC devices and mobile wallets, including Apple Pay, Google Pay, Samsung Pay and Alipay, are also among the possible options.

The system will also accommodate QR ticketing and payments, retain support for Touch ‘n Go cards and allow other payment methods approved in future, the minister said.

First announced in 2023, the initiative aims to broaden fare-payment options across Rapid Rail and Rapid Bus services. Loke attributed the time required to Prasarana’s procurement procedures and governance requirements, saying compliance was needed to ensure transparency.
