Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB) and MRT Corp formalised a partnership on October 20 to bring indoor 5G coverage to the Johor Bahru Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security (ICQC) complex serving the Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link.

The companies exchanged a memorandum of understanding at Transport Expo Asia 2026 in Kuala Lumpur. Transport Minister Anthony Loke witnessed the exchange.

DNB chief executive officer Datuk Azman Ismail said preparations would involve discussions with Singapore counterparts, including on roaming, to help passengers maintain connectivity when travelling between the countries.

Azman said the service would use 5G, not Wi-Fi. DNB would supply wholesale connectivity to telecommunications operators, while passengers would access it through their operators’ packages.

MRT Corp said the planned coverage across the complex would support navigation, digital ticketing, communications and mobile transactions. Its subsidiary, Malaysia Rapid Transit System Sdn Bhd, is responsible for developing and owning the RTS Link’s Malaysian infrastructure, including telecommunications facilities inside the Bukit Chagar ICQC.

MRT Corp plans to earn non-fare revenue by leasing infrastructure and renting telecommunications space to mobile network operators. The partnership also provides a framework for indoor connectivity at other busy locations, using DNB’s national 5G infrastructure and cooperation with its mobile network operator shareholders.
