KAI records 760,601 foreign passengers from January to August 2026
Malaysia was Whoosh’s largest foreign passenger market, with 403,626 passengers recorded from its October 2023 launch through August 2026.

Indonesia’s KAI Group recorded 760,601 foreign passengers across its conventional and high-speed rail services between January and August 2026, according to company figures reported by ANTARA.
Long-distance and local services run by PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) accounted for 498,232 of those passengers. The remaining 262,369 used Whoosh, the high-speed railway linking Jakarta with Bandung.
Malaysia ranked as Whoosh’s biggest foreign passenger market, said KAI Vice President for Public Relations Anne Purba. From the railway’s launch in October 2023 through August 2026, it carried 403,626 Malaysian passengers. Over that period, Singapore contributed 113,356 passengers, China 81,971, Japan 45,046 and South Korea 30,888, according to KAI’s figures.
Anne said tourism promotion in traditional media and on social platforms had helped increase foreign ridership. She also attributed the rise to growing awareness among international travellers of the convenience of travelling by rail in Indonesia.
Across its wider rail-related operations, KAI Group served 394.4 million customers during January-September 2026. That represented an increase of 7.06 per cent compared with 368.43 million during the corresponding period in 2025, company data showed.
