Indonesia prepares vehicle electrification roadmap through 2060
Electric motorcycles will be an early priority, with couriers, ride-hailing drivers and business fleets among the groups targeted for 2027–2030.

Indonesia is drawing up a roadmap through 2060 to progressively replace more than 170 million vehicles with domestically produced electric models, Deputy Industry Minister Faisol Riza said. Motorcycles will be among the first priorities.
Speaking at the Periklindo Electric Vehicle Conference in Central Jakarta on 28 October 2026, Faisol said the transition required coordination across automotive manufacturing, charging infrastructure and national electricity supply.
For 2027–2030, the government plans to focus electric motorcycle adoption on couriers, app-based motorcycle taxi drivers, company fleets, official vehicles and residents of major cities. The initial effort will target everyday transport and business operations, including users who travel frequently.
Faisol said the programme would extend to every province during 2031–2035. Expansion will depend on regional readiness and supporting services, including vehicle availability, service networks and charging facilities.
The plans also cover passenger cars and public transport. During 2027–2030, the government intends to broaden the range of locally manufactured electric cars, particularly family and compact models suited to Indonesian needs. It also plans to encourage electric buses on corridors ready to accommodate them.
Commercial vehicles and trucks used on roads and in dedicated operating areas are included. Faisol said companies using these vehicles would be asked to prepare electric transport fleets. Technology, production capacity, consumer purchasing power and infrastructure will help determine the pace of the transition.
