Malaysia’s adoption of artificial intelligence in education must go hand in hand with nurturing students’ values and character, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said in a video posted on Facebook.

Responding to a student who asked whether every school could eventually use tablets, laptops and AI, Anwar said the country was moving towards greater use of technology in education. He had met students from Pasir Gudang and Pontian in Johor at the Parliament building.

Anwar described digital tools as important to education’s future, but said their limitations needed to be recognised. In his view, AI can provide knowledge and intelligence but cannot supply the humanity or ethical qualities that people need to develop. He said schools should foster well-rounded individuals rather than concentrate on intelligence alone.

He also highlighted the Malay concept of akal budi, which connects intellect with moral character and ethical behaviour. Encouraging students to show affection and appreciation towards their parents, he said everyday gestures could nurture love and humanity as society advances technologically.
