Indonesia and India launched a creative technology partnership on October 24 at East Java's Singhasari Special Economic Zone (SEZ), aiming to develop Indonesian intellectual property, broaden artificial intelligence use and reach overseas audiences.

The corridor is intended to connect Indonesian storytelling and cultural content with audiovisual production expertise and technology from India. It follows commitments at the World Conference on Creative Economy (WCCE) 2026. Creative Economy Minister Teuku Riefky Harsya said the initiative sought to turn those commitments into partnerships offering economic opportunities.

Lokanima, which is based in the zone, signed a memorandum of understanding with Indonesian and Indian industry partners. Signatories include the creators of Fun Cican, Prodigi AI, LPP TVRI, Cinepolis, Xelta (MatchBest Group), Galleri5 India and Collective Studios (Collective Artists Network).

Partners are setting up a Creative Tech Sandbox within the zone, where creators and businesses will be able to test AI alongside other emerging technologies. They also intend to present collaborative projects in Mumbai at the World Audio Visual and Entertainment Summit (WAVES) 2027.

Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto said incorporating AI and digital technology into creative industries could support knowledge-based growth and create jobs and skills. Indonesia is also developing a National Artificial Intelligence Roadmap covering digital infrastructure, research and innovation, workforce development and responsible governance.
