Malaysia selects e-ART as main response to Johor Bahru traffic congestion
The government also plans additional bus routes, higher service frequencies and Grab shuttles ahead of the RTS Link opening.

Elevated Autonomous Rapid Transit (e-ART) will be the federal government’s main approach to easing traffic congestion in Johor Bahru, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim told the Dewan Rakyat on October 9. Presenting Budget 2027, he said the government had agreed to implement the system.
Alongside e-ART, Anwar outlined plans for additional bus routes and more frequent services on buses and KTM Komuter. Grab shuttle services would also be provided in areas where demand is high, ahead of the Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link opening.
He said the measures seek to strengthen public transport connections and relieve congestion as the RTS Link is expected to bring a major increase in travel between Johor Bahru and Singapore.
Malaysia and Singapore announced on October 2 that passenger services are now expected to begin in February 2027. Singapore’s Land Transport Authority and Malaysia’s Ministry of Transport said RTS Operations Pte Ltd had notified them of the revised timetable.
