Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto inaugurated 10 industrial projects and marked the first electric vehicle battery exports at Indonesia Weda Bay Industrial Park (IWIP) on 8 October 2026. Investment and Downstreaming Minister Rosan Roeslani said investment in the projects would reach US$10.2 billion, or about Rp180 trillion.

The ceremony took place in Central Halmahera, North Maluku. Rosan told the president that four completed projects, valued at US$3.4 billion or about Rp60 trillion, had entered commercial operation. They cover nickel-based battery materials, battery production, electrolytic aluminium and electric heavy equipment.

The other six projects, worth US$6.8 billion, have reached the groundbreaking stage. They include factories for nickel battery materials, the first EV battery separator facility, electrolytic aluminium, electric mining trucks and photovoltaic glass used in the solar power industry.

An additional US$7 billion in investment is projected to bring IWIP’s cumulative investment since 2018 from US$20 billion to US$27 billion. The projected figures also include total employment of 117,000 people and exports from the industrial park reaching US$11 billion.

According to IWIP’s website, the park was established on 30 August 2018 and designated a National Strategic Project by the Indonesian government. Its development is managed by a consortium including Tsingshan Holding Group, Huayou Cobalt and Zhenshi Holding Group, with nickel refining as its main operational focus.
