Vingroup orders 200 driverless metro trains for Hanoi
Alstom will manufacture 83 trainsets in France and provide technology and components for the remaining 117 to be assembled in Vietnam.

Vietnamese conglomerate Vingroup has agreed to buy 200 fully automated metro trains from France’s Alstom for Hanoi. Vingroup said the agreement includes technology transfer that will enable it to assemble more than half of the order in Vietnam.
Alstom will build the initial 83 trainsets at its French factory, then supply key components and transfer technology for Vingroup to assemble another 117 locally. The trains will use GoA4 automation, enabling operation without drivers on board.
Each train will have five cars made from aluminium alloy. The design is intended to ease axle loads, cut energy use and reduce track wear.
Vingroup subsidiary Vinhomes is building five Hanoi metro lines spanning a combined 303.5 kilometres. They will connect the city centre with locations including Noi Bai International Airport, the Hoa Lac technology hub and Dong Anh district on the outskirts.
Alstom has worked in Vietnam for more than three decades. Its earlier projects include signalling for the Hanoi–Vinh railway and Ninh Binh station, along with supplying 10 trains for Hanoi Metro Line 3 between Nhon and Hanoi Railway Station.
