KAI plans December service for eighth INKA commuter trainset
Greater Jakarta’s Commuter Line carried 303.79 million passengers from January to October 2026, according to the railway operator.

Indonesia’s state railway operator PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero), or KAI, is preparing an eighth trainset built by PT INKA for Commuter Line service. Final tests are scheduled for mid-November 2026, with passenger operations planned for early December.
KAI President Director Bobby Rasyidin said on November 7 that Greater Jakarta’s Commuter Line had recorded 303.79 million passengers between January and October 2026, with an average of 1 million on working days. He said that demand made safe and reliable rolling stock essential.
Rasyidin inspected the new set at the Depok KRL Train Depot in West Java alongside KAI Commuter’s technical director and INKA’s technical team. He said it had already been through several tests.
According to Rasyidin, INKA has redesigned components that frequently caused problems in earlier versions. The eighth set has an upgraded automatic door system compared with the previous seven, and its doors completed 500 test cycles. Its propulsion system and bogie or coil springs have also been improved, he said.
KAI Commuter President Director Purnomo Sidi said internal testing had also taken place, with each stage intended to check that the trainset could operate safely and reliably.
