Indonesia’s state electricity company PT PLN (Persero) is preparing to develop 100 gigawatt peak (GWp) of solar capacity under a target set by President Prabowo Subianto, PLN president director Suroso Isnandar said on 5 November 2026.

Speaking after a meeting at PLN’s Jakarta headquarters, Suroso said the programme was intended to sustain national electricity supplies and could lower generation costs over the longer term. PLN is also coordinating with relevant ministries to ensure sufficient primary energy supplies for reliable power plant operations, he said.

The Badan Pengendalian Pembangunan dan Investigasi Khusus (Bappisus) is overseeing the solar programme’s planning, implementation and budget management. Its head, Aris Marsudiyanto, said the oversight aimed to prevent funds from leaking out of projects. He stressed the importance of measurable, accountable planning.

Aris said Bappisus was strengthening scrutiny of government projects through cooperation with prosecutors, police, the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) and the Ombudsman.

Prabowo launched the solar programme in Jembrana, Bali, on 25 August 2026 as part of the government’s push for energy self-sufficiency through clean energy. He called for completion in less than three years to help reduce Indonesia’s dependence on fuel imports.

The programme involves Rp1,140 trillion in investment and is projected to employ 5.5 million people. It targets annual energy subsidy savings of up to Rp73.9 trillion. Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry data show that the initial phase focuses on 14 projects with combined capacity of 5,216 megawatt peak (MWp).
