VinSpeed outlines planned construction for Ben Thanh–Can Gio railway
The company is aiming for completion in December 2029 and has named the construction consortium and supervisor.

VinSpeed said work is scheduled to start on major elements of the Ben Thanh–Can Gio railway, including its stations, underground and elevated sections, and operating facilities. The company’s completion target is December 2029.
The design calls for an electrified railway extending about 54 kilometres, with two tracks and a standard gauge of 1,435 mm. Starting near Ben Thanh Market in Ben Thanh Ward, it will terminate at a 39-hectare site next to the Can Gio coastal-reclamation tourism urban area in Can Gio Commune.
About 3.3 kilometres from Ben Thanh Station will be built underground; viaducts will carry the rest of the route. The first phase provides for two stations, at Ben Thanh and Can Gio, plus a depot and an operations control centre. The Can Gio station and both operating facilities will be in Can Gio Commune.
The planned construction also covers systems supplying electricity, communications, signalling and fare collection, VinSpeed said. SGC Investment and Construction JSC will head a consortium that also includes Vinhomes JSC. Construction supervision will be handled by Consultant and Inspection Joint Stock Company of Construction Technology and Equipment (CONINCO).
A groundbreaking ceremony for the railway was held by VinSpeed on December 19, 2025.
