Pertamina Patra Niaga and Indonesia’s Ministry of Cooperatives launched a pilot on 29 October to collect used cooking oil through village cooperatives in Banyumas, Central Java. The programme aims to supply feedstock for sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and Green Gasoline.

Starting with four cooperative locations in Banyumas, the trial will run for four months and targets collections of 500,000 litres. The launch took place at the Dawuhan Koperasi Desa/Kelurahan Merah Putih (KDKMP), where the partners signed a cooperation agreement.

Pertamina Patra Niaga president director Mars Ega Legowo Putra said the company had prepared processing facilities, including at its Cilacap refinery. He said development would extend to other refineries, including Balongan, Dumai and Plaju, and stressed the need for reliable feedstock supplies.

Under the scheme, residents will bring used cooking oil to cooperative collection points. Mars Ega said the arrangement would give households economic value from the oil while helping industry obtain raw materials.

Cooperatives Minister Ferry Juliantono said his ministry was ready to support KDKMP cooperatives across Indonesia as suppliers to Pertamina. He expressed hope that wider participation could support SAF production and create economic opportunities for communities.
