Ho Chi Minh City plans 98 transport projects to ease congestion
The programme targets 28 traffic hotspots by 2030, with 33 projects already funded and ready for implementation.

Ho Chi Minh City's transport programme aims to clear 15 congestion hotspots during 2026–27 and another 13 between 2028 and 2030. The city has identified 98 projects, of which 33 have secured funding and fulfilled the conditions needed to proceed.
Construction already in progress includes upgrades at the An Phu and My Thuy intersections, widening works on National Highway 50 and the Nguyen Khoai bridge-road project. The Ho Chi Minh City - Moc Bai expressway is also being built as land clearance continues.
Authorities are preparing to begin work on Thu Thiem 4 Bridge, the Cat Lai - Phu Huu inter-port road and the Go Cong intersection. Other preparations cover widening the Hanoi Highway connection branch and restoring the environment of the Van Thanh canal.
Rail projects include extensions towards Binh Duong Province for metro lines No. 1 and No. 2. The programme also includes the Thu Thiem - Long Thanh railway and an initial phase of metro line No. 6 linking Tan Son Nhat International Airport with Phu Huu.
Municipal agencies are changing traffic routing and signals, altering medians and adding lane capacity alongside construction. Implementation obstacles include the slow relocation of technical infrastructure, planning revisions needed before appraisal and approval, shortages of aggregate at peak construction times, and changes required to consulting documents.
