Vingroup and Alstom sign deal for 200 Hanoi metro trainsets
Alstom will manufacture the first 83 trainsets in France and provide technology and components to support production of the remaining 117 in Vietnam.

Vingroup said it signed a rolling stock contract and a Technology License Agreement with Alstom on 6 October 2026, covering 200 Metropolis trainsets for Hanoi's expanding metro system. The agreements include the transfer of manufacturing and assembly technology to Vietnam.
Design and production of the initial 83 trainsets will take place at Alstom's Valenciennes Petite-Forêt facility in France. Alstom will also supply engineering expertise, tooling support, technology and key components so Vingroup can develop the capacity to manufacture and assemble the other 117 trainsets locally.
Vingroup acts as general contractor on Hanoi metro projects through Vinhomes, its subsidiary. The company said the partnership is intended to supply trains for those projects while building local rail manufacturing capabilities. Nguyen Viet Quang, Vingroup's vice chairman and CEO, said transport infrastructure was among the key areas of its Infrastructure pillar.
Hanoi's Capital Master Plan, which has a 2045 vision, envisages an urban rail system extending 979 kilometres across 18 lines. The planned network is intended to form the backbone of public transport in the city.
