NCS opened its AI Mission Centre in Ang Mo Kio on Oct 29 and said it would increase the number of AI engineers working within client teams from 100 to over 300 over two years.

The Singtel-owned information technology and communications engineering firm said the centre aims to help organisations move beyond proof-of-concept projects and deploy AI at production scale.

Chief executive Sam Liew said NCS would recruit staff and retrain existing employees to expand the engineering team. The specialists will develop solutions alongside customers, with the aim of enabling those customers to eventually own and run the systems themselves.

Liew said the work would involve understanding customers’ business problems and redesigning core processes around AI. He identified older systems and inconsistent data as obstacles some companies face when adopting the technology.

At the launch, Minister for Digital Development and Information Josephine Teo said Singapore needed to turn AI strategies into practical action. She highlighted infrastructure, enterprises capable of adopting AI, skilled workers, and supportive policies and programmes.

Teo also said the government had committed to using AI and agents to deliver public services, while ensuring staff had the skills needed for those roles.
