Indonesia plans at least 11 new bioethanol plants for 2028 E20 target
An energy official said ethanol supplies totalled 70,500 kilolitres, below the minimum 400,000 kilolitres needed for the proposed blend.

At least 11 new bioethanol factories are planned in Indonesia to support the government's aim of introducing petrol blended with 20 per cent ethanol, or E20, in 2028, according to energy official Eniya Listiani Dewi.
Eniya, director-general of new and renewable energy and energy conservation, said preparations for the factories included memorandums of understanding and confirmation of land availability. The facilities would use agricultural feedstocks such as sugar cane and maize to produce ethanol.
She put the ethanol stock available at 70,500 kilolitres. E20 implementation would need a minimum of 400,000 kilolitres, with requirements increasing progressively to 500,000 kilolitres and higher. Eniya also backed the revitalisation of older factories to help expand feedstock supplies.
A ministerial decree identifies areas, including parts of Java, that would support construction of bioethanol factories by PT Pertamina (Persero), she said.
Separately, Eniya said her office was working on technical preparations for mandatory blending of 10 per cent bioethanol into petrol, which is to take effect in 2027.
