Indonesia joins coalition seeking global child safeguards for AI
Jakarta will take part in a November 2026 summit to help develop international guidelines for protecting children in digital environments.

Indonesia has joined an international coalition focused on protecting children from AI-related digital harms, Communication and Digital Affairs Minister Meutya Hafid announced in Jakarta on October 7. She said the country would attend a follow-up summit in November 2026 to contribute to international guidelines.
Meutya said Indonesia joined the Global Coalition for Children's Rights and Protection in the Age of AI after high-level talks alongside the UN General Assembly in New York. Indonesia is seeking common international rules for child safety in digital environments. She said a shared standard would help improve compliance by technology companies and AI developers.
The minister attended a coalition forum in New York on September 22. French President Emmanuel Macron, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, Kenyan President William Ruto and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese co-led the meeting, which brought together national leaders, UN representatives, technology companies and child safety specialists to develop safeguards.
Meutya acknowledged AI's educational and creative benefits for young people but said their safety should not be left to algorithms. She called for governments, technology platforms, industry, parents, schools and the international community to share responsibility.
