XLSmart plans to extend its 5G service to 101 Indonesian cities by the end of 2026, from coverage in more than 70 regencies and cities, according to Merza Fachys, EXCL’s director and chief regulatory officer.

Speaking at the Media Experience Update 5G Yogyakarta-Solo event on 15 October 2026, Merza said the company had completed several stages of network development. He said infrastructure had been installed along routes targeted by XLSmart to provide coverage for people travelling by car, bicycle and train.

Merza also claimed XLSmart had more 5G base stations than its competitors. He pointed to the company’s receipt of Ookla’s The Best 5G Network award as recognition of the quality of its network.

Customers of XL, Smartfren and Axis should receive a similar 5G connectivity experience because the three brands share a network, Merza said. Their service offerings differ in the packages available for customers with different needs. He said XLSmart hoped to meet its year-end coverage target with support from various parties.
