NIL Club Data Shows Brands Are Looking Beyond Follower Counts in College Sports

Oct 1, 2026

ATLANTA - Oct. 1, 2026 - PRLog -- NIL Club today highlighted results from recent brand campaigns that show why follower count alone is becoming a less useful measure of a college athlete's marketing value.

That distinction is particularly important in college sports, where most athletes are not national celebrities. A football star with hundreds of thousands of followers can deliver broad awareness, while a swimmer, volleyball player or Division III athlete may offer a smaller but highly relevant audience.

"The athletes driving real results for our partners are not always the ones with the biggest audiences," said Mick Assaf, CEO and co-founder of NIL Club. "College athletes have credibility within their teams, campuses and communities. When the right athlete reaches the right audience, that connection can turn into measurable action."

The clearest evidence comes from conversion. For SoFi, a campaign through NIL Club generated more than 47,000 new accounts, with nearly 60 percent of them funded. That funding rate was close to five times the roughly 12 percent industry benchmark.

A separate campaign for a major cryptocurrency exchange generated roughly 4,800 referred sign-ups and more than 2,600 funded accounts, about a 54 percent sign-up-to-funded rate, compared with roughly 12 percent from cold paid social. More than 1,600 of those customers went on to place a first trade.

Content campaigns have produced similar results. For a nationwide Subway activation, more than 170 college athletes created nearly 200 pieces of original content over three weeks, generating more than a million views and a combined engagement rate above 8 percent across TikTok, Instagram Reels and Instagram Stories. Rather than building the campaign around one athlete with a massive national following, Subway worked across athletes from different sports, schools and communities.

The approach reflects a broader change in creator marketing. Brands are increasingly looking at engagement, audience fit and measurable performance alongside reach when deciding which creators can deliver value.

"Reach will always matter for the right campaign," Assaf said. "But it should not be the only measure of an athlete's value. If an athlete can create effective content, connect with the right audience and produce a measurable result, brands should be paying attention."

For college athlete marketing, the shift gives brands more ways to define influence and athletes a chance to demonstrate it.

PSA, Granite Asia launch US$50M fund to scale supply-chain innovation

In global logistics, the problem is rarely a shortage of new technology. Ports, shipping lines, freight forwarders and warehouse operators are constantly pitched tools promising to predict delays, automate yards, optimise routes or cut emissions. The harder question is whether those tools can work inside real trade networks, where a single container journey may involve […] The post PSA, Granite Asia launch US$50M fund to scale supply-chain innovation appeared first on e27.

Why a good product isn’t enough for sustainable growth

A good product can open the door to a market, but it does not guarantee business success. Many companies reach a point where their product or service has potential, customers are showing interest, and the team is working hard, but growth remains slower than expected. The challenge is often not the product itself. It is […] The post Why a good product isn’t enough for sustainable growth appeared first on e27.

What building Bangladesh’s agency actually looks like from the inside – Part 2

In part one, I traced the early years of building Ngital, the frustration with an industry built on vanity metrics, the scramble to land the first clients, and the realisation that reshaped how the agency approached its work. Part two picks up from there: what trust actually looks like once that work is underway, the […] The post What building Bangladesh’s agency actually looks like from the inside – Part 2 appeared first on e27.

The AI agent boom is exposing Southeast Asia’s startup codebase problem

Across Southeast Asia’s technology hubs, the AI conversation has moved quickly from “Can it help developers write code faster?” to a harder question: “Can it be trusted to work on the codebase by itself?” That shift matters. The first wave of generative AI in software engineering was largely about assistance: autocomplete tools, chat-based coding helpers, […] The post The AI agent boom is exposing Southeast Asia’s startup codebase problem appeared first on e27.

Why con artists get the meeting that honest founders can’t

In July 2011, a 27-year-old Stanford dropout secured a 10-minute slot with George Shultz at the Hoover Institution. The meeting ran two and a half hours. Before the month was out, the former secretary of state had joined the Theranos board, won over, he told Fortune, by her “purity of motivation.” Nothing said in that […] The post Why con artists get the meeting that honest founders can’t appeared first on e27.
